OK, so this book really isn’t for the ducklings yet. It’s for me. I so wish I had had this book when I was ten years old. It covers everything related to building, from observing how animals build to understanding the truss systems on bridges. And it covers every imaginable sort of building material and project that kids might want to do, from hammer and nails to straws and strings to sugar cubes. The emphasis is on experimenting with materials, not constructing a pre-designed plan.
This is a book that would be great for nature study, handcrafts, rainy days, sunny days, or any other time. It’s a little too soon for the ducklings to enjoy this book, but judging from how many hours a day the Duplos are in use, I’m pretty sure that it will be just the ticket in a couple of years.
